Introduction

The Research Center for Rural Development (RCRD) is a research unit of An Giang University. It was established according to Decision No. 672/ QЖUB–TC, dated July 5th 2003, by the People’s Committee of An Giang Province. The objectives of RCRD are to design, organize and perform research in the fields of rural development, environmental management, and in order to meet the challenges of climate change, in the Mekong Delta.  The results of this research, in the form of advanced science knowledge and techniques are to be made available to further the goals of socio-economic development in An Giang province and elsewhere in the Delta.

Functions:

  • Organize and carry out research, in the fields of integrated rural development, environmental management, and addressing the challenges raised by climate change; and apply the findings in order to contribute to the socio-economic development of communities living within the Mekong Delta region;
  • Organize training courses in the fields of rural development, environment management, and the impacts of the climate change, in order to promote socio-economic development. Intended beneficiaries are to be Vietnamese nationals, specialized staffs and managers;
  • Participate in teaching and training programs inside and outside An Giang University;
  • Organize and implement scientific and technological services which are related to rural development, environmental management and climate change in the Mekong Delta;
  • Build partnerships and develop cooperation with national and international institutions, universities, other organizations, and individuals in order to carry out the tasks and functions assigned to RCRD

Mission and Competence:

  • Plan and carry out research programs for rural development, environmental management and climate change;
  • Organize scientific research projects which are approved by the Leaders at University level and assigned to RCRD by the jurisdiction manager.
  • Develop and recommend policies to the Provincial Committee of the Party and the People’s Committee for rural development, environmental management and meeting the challenges of climate change at the local level,
  • Organize scientific and technological activities which help An Giang University to attain it’s development objectives;
  • Participate in teaching and training courses inside and outside the University;
  • Conduct exchanges and collaborations with national and international scientific and technological institutions in scientific research for rural development, environmental management and in order to meet the challenges of climate change, and do so within State regulations;
  • Arrange services for information, consulting technology, training skills, transferring scientific and technological knowledge and actual experience in the field of rural development, environment and climate change, in order to promote the process of socio-economic development in locality;
  • Build and maintain a system for information and data management, appropriate for the tasks of RCRD and make this information available for users within and outside the university;
  • Gradually, over time, modernize RCRD’s facilities and techniques to enable the centre to undertake the responsibilities I has been allocated.
